Mother's Day

Screen Shot 2014-05-20 at 9.10.58 AM

Whew. It has been such a LONG time since I've posted anything. I know that my New Year's resolution was to post regularly on here, but then winter happened. For those of you that don't live in the Midwest, let me tell you that we had one of the worst winters EVER! I'm talking constant snow storms, gusty winds, and weather consistently below zero degrees. With all that going on, I essentially made it a habit of going to work and going home and not leaving the warmth of my home. I wasn't feeling too inspired because my outfits were mainly styled for warmth rather than interest.

But luckily, at least I hope (fingers crossed), Spring is FINALLY here. Mother's Day weekend was absolutely gorgeous! I went home to the suburbs to visit my family for the holiday. My mom and I have a new tradition of running a 5K race any time there is a holiday so when a family friend asked if we would like to run with her Mother's Day morning, we happily said yes! Although the course was much harder than we expected, it was nothing but hills for 3.1 miles, all of us finished strong. I cannot say how proud I am of my mom for running these races with me. My mom had knee surgery a few years back and since then she's been determined that it isn't going to stop her from doing anything, so she started running 5ks with me.

This weekend was also particularly exciting because I got to meet my parents' new dog, Trixie. Trixie is a rescue shih-tzu that my parents adopted and she's very very sweet. I must say though that I had to be very careful where I was walking the entire weekend because Trixie is TINY! I'm talking 5 pounds tiny! Oh well, at least she fits perfectly in my lap while watching a movie.

All in all, it was a fantastic weekend!

Dear Creatures Spring 2014

Holy cow! Its been such a LONG time since I've blogged. One of my New Years resolutions is to be more attentive to my little blog and try to post at least once a week, it not more. I also want to post more of my own style pictures instead of just other people's photos or lookbooks. As soon as this horrible Chicago winter ceases, I'm going to try and start getting into the swing of taking photos with my tripod. Fingers crossed I hold up to my resolution! But alas, to get back in the swing of things I thought I'd post a lookbook that I am absolutely DROOLING over.

If you haven't already heard of the company Dear Creatures, please do yourself a favor and look it up. The clothing has a wonderful vintage feel and is a favorite among my girl crush Zooey Deschanel. This spring lookbook has completely blown me away. I have been anxiously checking the website each day anticipating the release of it. What do you think?

Leah Reena Goren Does It Again

All photos courtesy of Leah Reena Goren

Leah Goren has done it again with her incredible hand designed patterns. Leah creates and designs all of the patterns featured on her garments herself and all of her clothes are hand-sewn, which makes them even more special. I am fortunate enough to have a custom made Leah Goren "cat dress" and I must say that it is one of my favorite items in my closet. I absolutely love knowing that the dress was custom made for me because it evokes such a loving feeling knowing that a real person made this amazing dress for me and put a lot of love into it. I must say that the attention to detail that Leah spends on each garment is incredible. I seriously don't know how she does it. Now that I've seen some of her new items I know I will have to start saving because I want all of them. Please check out Leah's Etsy store as well as her lovely blog and support this amazing girl!

Elle Fanning by Venetia Scott for Self Service Magazine

So, where do I even begin here? Few lookbooks ever leave me speechless, but honestly this one literally took my breath away the moment I saw it. I guess the first place to start is ELLE FREAKING FANNING! I have to be honest here, I've had a bit of a girl crush on here ever since the movie "Super 8". To me she embodies such an essence of class and sophistication, that its hard not to notice here in anything she does. My second reason for going crazy over these photos is how completely wearable all of the clothes are. I hate when lookbooks are gorgeous, yet not practical for a day at the office. Each of these outfits conveys a sense of 70s, 80s, and 90s vintage that just works. My favorite would have to be the soft flower tunic. I mean, it does have roller skates!

Weekstagram // June 24

This past week, I was on vacation in Hawaii!

  • After twelve hours of traveling, I finally arrived in Maui, Hawaii
  • A typical Hawaii rainbow (it is known as the "rainbow state")
  • Getting ready to go surfing
  • Catching some waves out by the resort
  • Standing by the Banyan Tree. Pretty sure I have this same picture from when I was 8.
  • Zipling over the Maui Plantation
  • I found an anchor near the Whaler's Village so naturally I had to represent Delta Gamma!
  • Not wanting to leave the ocean.
